By virtue of Dubai Law No. 2/1996 and the revision of Dubai Law No. 2/2000 concerning the establishment of legal establishments in Dubai Airport Free Zone, His Highness Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashid Al Maktoum, ruler of Dubai, established the Dubai Airport Free (DAF) Zone.

Dubai Airport Free Zone Authority (DAF Authority) established the DAF zone, and its primary internal laws are outlined in Dubai Law No. 25/2009.

Generally speaking, free zones are assigned to a specific sector. Since they only grant licenses for certain industries, there are typically no agreements between free zones, even though they permit up to 100% foreign ownership and are subject to varying or reduced trade barriers, tariffs, and quotas. If a company decides to operate outside of these limits, it must follow the UAE Commercial Companies Law and follow the relevant licensing procedures in the Emirate in which it conducts business.

A firm that incorporates in the DAF Zone will have access to many features, including the following:

  • complete ownership
  • simple access to several banks
  • no intervention from a UAE national

The businesses that are incorporated into the DAF Zone are permitted to carry out the tasks specified in the trade or commercial license. Generally speaking, businesses can import, export, distribute, store, and deal with manufactured items. After obtaining a license to provide expert and professional advice, the organizations can offer consulting services. Additionally, businesses are permitted to engage in assembly, packaging, and light manufacturing.

Companies established in the DAF zone are exempt from corporate and income taxes.

The Freezones Rules and Regulations, respectively, govern the pay and minimum benefits, working hours, and leave policies of employees employed in this free zone. But the terms of payment and any other perks of the job will be determined by the employer.
